ive run avg several times and it hasnt detected anything.

Avg : easy to use but it has the worst virus detection rates

Avast : a little better but use to much resources and can slow down your pc

Is there a free antispy program with realtime protection?

I'm concerned about the security of my computer, and while I have an active firewall (ZoneAlarm Free) and an active antivirus (AVG Free), I don't have an active antispy application. I'd like to buy one, but I'm too poor to buy software (hence my preference for free products over paid ones). I'm currently searching for a free (not trial version) antispy program that has realtime protection (meaning it starts up automatically with my computer when I log on to my computer) and that I can schedule scans with. Please do not recommend Spyware Terminator from Crawler, however, as I have tried that application and have had an immensely unsatisfactory experience with it.

AVG Antispy as suggested above only has real-time protection during the trial period, after that it reverts to being just an on-demand scanner.

I don't know of any free antispyware with real-time protection other than AVG during the trial, and Spyware Terminator.

Spybot isn't really real-time because all it does is immunize your browser (SD Helper) and/or monitor your registry (Tea Timer function.)

However, Comodo's BOClean is a real-time antimalware which performs a one-time scan on installation and I believe it can be set to scan on demand. I have my BOClean running in the background and have never run an on-demand scan with it.

Still I will add very small tips.

Look for tasks which are running from Task Manager, if you find tasks which are not initiated by you try to close this tasks.

Some tasks are critical and cannot be closed like svchost

If some task is closed and it reappears it means that this is sort of virus.

Viruses are very tricky they will keep lot of backups and disable your rights for accessing them.

msconfig32 is also one command which can be used from start -%26gt; to know what are the startup programs, you can judge by self by checking the details of these files by Right clicking properties and checking name etc in version tab. If you find reliable info, then keep the task else rename the file.

You can even check for services which are running in the background by Start-%26gt;Run-%26gt; Services.msc

Check for reliable services, else remove this services from registry.

It is really a cumbersome task, but not difficult, practice makes men (women also) perfect, after softwares are developed by human with some logics, above are the some logics, but what software does is, it check inside the file also, which can not be done by us, unless with some reverse engineering knowledge,

First of all you need to understand that the AT%26T Yahoo protection package is not free. You are paying for it as part of your DSL fees.

I use the package and am very happy with it. I recommend it highly. I have been infection free for almost a year. I use this package with two additional programs and get great protection. I use the Window Defender Beta 2 and SpywareBlaster with my package. The additional Anti-Spyware programs are necessary since no single AS program can protect against all the Spyware on the net.

Get WDB2 and use the learning sites to set it up and use it properly and you will get great protection from it.

Helpppppppppp! I don't want to spend money AGAIN, how do I get rid of Norton Antivirus AND viru

I remembered that because I have Comcast internet, I can get McAfee AntiVirus for free, so I downloaded it. Yet, I cannot fully download it (I don't get the virus scan out of all things!) because I still have an old version of Norton AntiVirus on my computer. The Auto-Protect won't enable no matter how many times I try so I'm ready to get rid of it. The problem is, I need the original CD to get it off my computer. I don't have it! I really need to rid my computer of viruses, FAST! Is there any way I can do this without the CD? Please help!

Also, if I can do that, I want to download McAfee again to run the scan but I'm afraid my system might be reinfected by System Restore. Apparently, I'm supposed to turn System Restore off, reboot in Safe Mode, run the scan, and then turn on the computer as well as System Restore, again. How do I do this? I need detailed answers, please help!

I just had to uninstall Norton off my grandma's computer because it was blocking her new cable internet... *shakes head*
