Mc Afee Internet security 2007 to AVG free??

Currently I am using Mc Afee Internet security 2007 and my subsciption will expire in 15 days time. I intend to switch to other vendors of antivirus like the free one as AVG because it is costly for me to continue using Mc Afee products. Any good advice from computer experts out here?

Mc Afee Internet security 2007 to AVG free??internet security

You are on the right track. Get rid of McAfee or Norton. They suck. Both ask for money for a product that is buggy and slow. Switching to a free anti-virus like AVG is a great idea. Also check our Anti-Vir. Great anti-virus program that is SMALL and FAST.

Also, don't think you are done if you get just an anti-virus program. you still need to protect against spyware, which Mcafee and norton did a crappy job of anyways. The best two programs that I like to use are Spybot and Ad-Aware, They both have free versions which work like a charm. Use them once a week and you will be better off than if you had Mcafee installed.

Just a tip. Use common sense too! Don't think that this will protect you 100%. Their is no program that will do that. If you are in a shady web site and you download/install something that you really don't know what it is, you could be trashing your computer.

Yes, I'd stick with McAfee. AVG Free is not as complete a security solution as McAfee Internet Security 2007.

McAfee Internet Security Suite with SiteAdvisor 2008 offers 10-in-1 protection.

Can your PC be hacked if sum1 has my IP Address inspite of having a Firewall & Antivirus? How to

I have Zone alarm firewall %26 AVG Antivirus both r free edition %26 r fully updated. I have NTFS file system on all hard drives.

Sometimes the firewall turns off on it's own %26 i have to restart the firewall to make it active.

I also use utorrent %26 i have allowed the firewall to allow Only Access to the net but not to act as server.

Can your PC be hacked if sum1 has my IP Address inspite of having a Firewall %26 Antivirus? How to Know %26 find ?internet

A/V turning off all on it's own is usually an indication of an infection... sometimes it can just be a reinstallation issue if lucky... I would look into that and maybe do a scan from one of the top vendor websites that offer web scanning..

So the answer to your question is YES but a properly configured firewall will help in that not happening...

Basically the way it works is an attacker will scan for open ports... and will scan for programs running on the computer that is unpatched and has known vulnerabilities.

If any of these are found they are points of possible entry.

So if you don't have windows updates with the latest security patches then they could fund an MS vulnerability and attack it and possibly gain entry even through your firewall.

There's even something called "Firewalking" that goes around the firewall looking for ways in...

AVG is the Best of the Best . Go for it , it has a free version that rocks ... too good

Antivirus concerns?nortan antivirus

avg and/or avast are the best on the web, both have free versions. and/or you can look for the trojan on your lappy, boot into safe mode.
To get rid of your viruses, etc., you can do a very effective free online scan that will clean %26 disinfect your computers.

Go to the site below and pick up Panda on the free online virus %26 spyware scans.

When you get to the site, click on Scan My Computer.

On the next page you are given a choice of which areas to scan.

Can a computer shop sell a piece of software that they get for free to the customer? Comodo.com?

Comodo is a good example. It's a great firewall and antivirus that's free. Can it be sold? They said it was for the install though.

Can a computer shop sell a piece of software that they get for free to the customer? Comodo.com?live update

Anyone can sell you services to install free software anytime.

This for example is how Apache web server team makes any money at all. The Apache web server software is FREE. The support for it, is what costs money.

So, they didn't actually charge you for the software, they just charged you to install the software for you... sure they can do that.

They can probably also sell the software itself, as long as it is not marked otherwise, such as "Not For Resale". People sell shareware and freeware, and even public domain software all the time, as long as the author of the software has not otherwise disallowed it.

AVAST antivirus? Is it any good?

I found this free (for home use) antivirus - Avast - but don't know if it is a good alternative for software produced by some "big fish" like Symantec, McAffe or Kaspersky.

AVAST antivirus? Is it any good?liveupdate

I like AVAST, AVG %26 BitDefender better than the mainstream anti-virus providers for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that they have free versions, are less resource hungry (NAV %26 McAfee are resource hogs), and are less frequently targeted.

Be sure to download and use a good anti-spyware software such as Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoft.com or Spybot S%26D http://www.safer-networking.org as the programs discussed provide only anti-virus utlities.

AVAST antivirus? Is it any good?nortin

yeah pretty good here is a link type in avast and you can read the user reviews ...i've used it but i like avg ..better ...you can also download from this site as well

http://www.download.com/
I've heard it works good, it's one of the top two to use on this computer tech forum I help out at. I use AVG, my mom's computer friend who is an IT computer tech person recommends it and it's free.
Well, at one point years ago I paid for Symantec, then McAfee, and tried Kaspersky for a short period. For the past 5 years I have had Avast 4-Home, the free version, and have not had a virus get into my computer since I installed it. Does that answer your question?
avast is not the best check out its rating at av-comparatives.org look at the Aug.2007 report. The best free one is avira not avg through many will disagree .Avira along with spyware terminator and comodo BOClean ad-aware and a-squared free and a firewall you should stay clean
Works great. Never any problems and it catches every viruses or suspect file.
Personally I like AVG Antivirus (they have a free version as well). you can get it at http://free.grisoft.com

Question about Symantec antivirus program....?

I downloaded it cause I got it free along with Mcafee antivirus ware. As soon as I downloaded the Symantec, my PC ran so slow I got really pissed and took it off. It came with a firewall which I already have one through windows. The Mcafee is running great and my PC is running smooth. So anyone know why it runs slow with the other?

Here is a review on the best programs on the market and advice about why Norton and mcafee slows the PC down too much..

AVG-free edtion wants me to upgrade to AVG Internet security?mcaffee

That's what you call an ad. If AVG Free does what you want it to do, then you don't really need to change it. I use AVG Free for antivirus, Windows Defender and Spybot Search %26 Destroy for anti-spyware, Sygate Personal Firewall as my software firewall, and I've seen them all in action.

AVG, Windows Defender, and Sygate Personal Firewall once prevented my system from problems when Bethseda's official forums got hacked. (This was before I installed Spybot.) That particular situation was an unusual one, the best way to avoid problems is simply to stay away from dubious websites. You're not likely to get a virus from, say, Cnet. Or Yahoo Answers. But if you're visiting sites that offer "free downloads" of "full version" software, then you're tempting fate. (And hopefully Bethseda's learned it's lesson about keeping it's forum software up to date.)

That's just a nag screen, annoying but harmless.

Avast doesn't nag you to upgrade, by the way, and it has better detection rates than AVG ;-)
